WOH 1023 - History of World Civilization 1500 to 1815- (I) 3 credit(s) Prerequisite(s): Testing into ENC 1101; or completion of ENC 0025 and REA 0017 with a “C” or higher (and/or completion of former course numbers ENC 9020 or ENC 9021 with a “C” or higher and former course number REA 9003 with a “C” or higher); or EAP 1620 and EAP 1640 with a “C” or higher; or an eligible testing/course completion combination. Required: Writing intensive–a minimum of 4,000 words of instructor-evaluated writing per student This course is a survey of the history of the world from 1500 to 1815. This course emphasizes the political, economic, social, and intellectual aspects of world history during this period. Subjects include European exploration and colonization; the emergence of the nation-state; great modern revolutions; the Enlightenment; the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Era. This course is termed a writing intensive course and requires a minimum of 4,000 words of instructor-evaluated writing per student, including a minimum of three graded assignments over the duration of the course. If completed with a grade of “C” or better, this course serves to complete part of the writing intensive course requirements.
