MEA 1248C - Clinical Laboratory Procedures 3 credits Prerequisites: HSC 1531 and BSC 1085C , each with a grade of “C” or better. This course introduces the student to clinical laboratory techniques specific to the scope of practice of Medical Assistants. Routine laboratory testing, specimen collection and processing, venipuncture, operation of equipment, quality control, and laboratory safety will be addressed. Students work collaboratively learning blood collection techniques through phlebotomy and capillary puncture as well as several methods of urine collection. Students will prepare to take the NHA’s Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) credentialing exam.
