ENT 2271 - Business Genesis 3 credits Business Genesis is a cornerstone course designed for the final semester of the AS in entrepreneurship program, synthesizing knowledge from previous courses while providing advanced insights into business planning and execution. This hands-on course dwells into some of the critical tasks that a new business owner must complete in the first 100 days of launching a business. Students will learn to secure the proper business licenses and permits, set up bookkeeping and other systems, negotiate leases, buy insurance, and so on.
Prioritizing and tracking these activities is essential to getting a business off to a good and legally proper start.
In addition to these technical tasks, the course emphasizes developing a comprehensive 1-3 year business plan and financial projections that can convince potential investors of the business’s viability. Students will learn how to deliver effective pitch presentations, operationalize their business plans, acquire initial customers, and leverage the regional entrepreneurial ecosystem to build partnerships, business relations, and alliances. The course also covers the unique challenges and opportunities of managing and working in a small business.
By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to transform their business ideas into market-ready ventures. They will be exposed to behaviors and traits that contribute to entrepreneurial success, ensuring they are prepared to navigate the complexities of launching and growing a business.
