FIL 1000 - Film Appreciation (I) 3 credits The course is designed to provide a general introduction to the discipline of film studies through screenings of American and/or international films, readings, discussion, and writing. The course will also offer basic theoretical approaches to the various genres of narrative cinema as well as different modes of nonfiction cinema (documentary and avant-garde film practices), so that students will understand how cinema has developed globally and locally as art, technology, and social practice from the late 19th century to the digital age.
