The Emergency Medical Services Technology Programs are designed to prepare the student to become a competent entry-level Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and/or Paramedic. Studies include an introduction to the field of emergency medical services, including but not limited to the following: EMS operations, patient assessment, medical behavioral emergencies, obstetrics/gynecology, trauma, and emergency medical services for infants, children, and geriatrics.
Requirements for completion of the AS degree in Emergency Medical Services include Florida EMT certification and Florida Paramedic certification. Both the EMT and Paramedic certificate programs are limited admissions and require an additional application process in addition to college admissions. Refer to the Edison State College EMT Certificate (www.edison.edu/academics/certemt/emtbasic.php) and the Edison State College Paramedic Certificate (www.edison.edu/academics/certparamedic/paramedic.php) requirements for additional information.
General Education requirements may be completed concurrently with career core requirements, or following successful Florida Paramedic Certification.
The EMS Technology Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) in conjunction with the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).
