EMS 2600 - Introduction to Paramedics (Please see 2024-2025 Catalog Addendum for update) 5 credits Prerequisites: Admission to Paramedic program. Corequisites: EMS 2522 and EMS 2600L This course is an introduction to the Paramedic: National Standard Curriculum/EMS Education Standards which focuses on paramedic workforce safety and wellness, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) systems, public health, medical, legal, and ethical considerations, communications, documentation, medical terminology, lifespan development, patient assessment, critical thinking and clinical decision making, operations, principles of pharmacology. Students will be introduced to topics of the respiratory system; to include airway and ventilation assessment, the respiratory system disease pathophysiology and respiratory emergencies.
