Purpose
The Associate in Science (AS) in Fire Science Technology is designed to provide advanced educational opportunities for fire service personnel. Students gain both knowledge and experience useful to career advancement in the challenging field of fire service. The program is designed both for students who have completed Fire Fighter I/II training and those interested in expanding career opportunities in the field of fire science. The Fire Fighter I/II Career Certificate is strongly recommended, but not required to enroll in the Fire Science Technology, AS program. Fire Science Technology courses are designed to fit into the work schedule of employed fire service personnel.
Program Structure
This program is a planned sequence of instruction consisting of 60 credit hours in the following areas: 15 credit hours of General Education Requirements, 30 credit hours of Program Requirements, and 15 credit hours of Electives.
Baccalaureate Degree Opportunity
Florida SouthWestern State College also offers a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Public Safety Administration and a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Supervision and Management. Graduates of the AS degree program in Fire Science Technology may enroll in these degree programs and complete remaining courses to earn the baccalaureate degree. Graduation Requirements
Students must fulfill all requirements of their program to be eligible for graduation. Students must indicate their intention to attend commencement ceremony by completing the Commencement Form by the published deadline.
