Library Services, Resources, Instruction, and Facilities
The FSW Libraries, located on the Charlotte, Collier, and Lee Campuses and the Hendry/Glades Center, offer a wide array of services, resources, instruction, and facilities to support academic research. The libraries provide access to approximately 36,000 print volumes, 35,000 eBooks, 48,000 streaming videos, 4,100 DVDs, and 40 eReaders for student loan. Students have access to approximately 150 subscription databases, which provide millions of scholarly journal, newspaper, and magazine articles, as well as reference materials, streaming video, and eBooks. Students can borrow print books and articles from the libraries of Florida’s 28 public colleges and 12 public universities through the Florida Academic Library Services Cooperative (FALSC), which is part of the Florida Virtual Campus (FLVC).
The FSW Libraries provide student access to over 200 computers, wireless Internet, open study space, and approximately 20 study rooms. Library services include Inter-library Loan and Reserves. FSW Faculty Librarians provide one-on-one Research Instruction as well as formal Research Instruction Workshops to groups of students in a lab or classroom. For more information about library services, resources, instruction, and facilities, visit the FSW Libraries’ homepage at www.fsw.edu/library/. The libraries’ main search tools-the databases and online catalog-are accessible from the libraries’ homepage.
Access to Library Resources/Library Card
Students who have paid for classes use their FSW BUC Card to borrow library materials; to access online resources, including eBooks and databases; and to request resources from either an FSW Library that is not at the student’s home campus, or from other colleges and universities. FSW students physically must present their BUC Cards to check out library books and DVDs at the library. The Borrower ID is the student’s ID number, which is located on the BUC Card and in the FSW Student Portal. The PIN/Password is the last 4 digits of the student’s social security number. If a student does not have a Social Security number, the PIN is the last 4 digits of the student’s ID number. Community members (non-students) within the 5 county area may obtain a courtesy FSW Library Card to borrow books only.
Overdue, Lost, or Damaged Library Material Charges
The following charges may apply to all library patrons.
Overdue Materials: Students will be charged replacement fees for resources that are not returned. Students who have overdue materials or who have not returned recalled materials will be notified by mail. A Financial Services hold will be placed on the record of a student who has overdue materials. A Financial Services hold on a student record means:
- The student is liable for a replacement fee.
- College registration is blocked.
- Grades, transcripts, degrees, and certificates are not released.
- Library privileges are suspended.
Lost or Damaged Materials: A student who returns materials in damaged condition will be charged a replacement fee. A fee will be charged for material lost to FSW Libraries, or to other college or university libraries, i.e., lost Inter-library loan materials.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Services Fees: Students who request ILL services for which a fee is charged will be billed. The FSW Libraries will not add additional service charges.
Students may appeal overdue charges or holds on records to the FSW Libraries’ Head Librarian.
