This certificate addresses competencies for early childhood educators completing their Child Development Associate (CDA) or Florida Child Care Professional (FCCPC) Credential, in addition to a foundational course focused solely on the developing child. There is an emphasis on the education of children between three and five years of age. It prepares students for immediate employment educating children in a variety of settings, with a focus on child care. We support those currently employed in early care and education in enhancing their skills and achieving their educational goals while staying debt free. This is accomplished through close collaboration with the T.E.A.C.H. (Teacher Education and Compensation Helps) scholarship program, as well as scholarships available through FSW (The Schulze Family Foundation). The study of research and theory is blended with many opportunities for hands-on experiences, as well as practical experience in the field. This certificate does not include general education courses.

Program Highlights:

This certificate equips students to become developmental educators. An emphasis on relationships between children, families, and communities in our diverse world is central to the courses and experiences. Our faculty all have extensive experience and education in Early Childhood Education to teach in a way that complements students’ field experience. Students are supported in completing their courses on a full-time or part-time basis. All courses are available online, which allows great flexibility. CHD 1220 Introduction to Child Development is offered in a format blending face to face and online coursework, in addition to being offered online. This offers convenience and high quality experiences for our students.
